Summer on Film

Summer on Film

As a huge movie buff, I am always looking for great films to fit my current mood or aesthetic if you will. This summer, we are going for fun, bright, and bold. And so, every new film I watch must match that energy. Unfortunately, I am running out of films to watch; but, I am happy to help you all out by documenting a list of these must-see summer films that symbolize the vibrance of the summer of twenty-twenty-two.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Channel the style and vibrance of Sharon Tate this summer. In the late 1960s, fashion was all about psychedelic and mod prints full of color and patterns. Females were starting to branch out and embrace their individuality through their behavior and dress. Make sure to hop in your car, put the windows down, and blast some modern tunes just like they did in 1969.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!

Mamma Mia 2 is all about the optimism and opportunity one feels after they graduate college, shown by fearless young Donna Sheridan. All summer long, Donna dances, boats, swims, explores, and sings: a true summer of freedom.

Moonrise Kingdom

Moonrise Kingdom is all about the uncertainty of life as an adolescent personified by Suzy and her friendship/romance with Sam. However, it too shows the simplicity of summer as a child with lighthouses, record players, dancing, beach days, letters, and summer camp.

High School Musical 2

High School Musical 2 is without a doubt the most infamous summer film ever. Between Sharpay’s pool days, Troy and Gabriella frolicking on the golf course, and Chad working in the kitchen, this is the ultimate teenage summer.

Call Me by Your Name

The beauty and bliss of a European summer trip can take one away from reality. Mountain hikes, bike rides, days at the pond, and most importantly, summer love.

Palm Springs

Palm Springs depicts Nyles and Sarah forever getting stuck in one day and therefore, they are on the journey to get out of it. However, in this forever day in Palm Springs, you can see them in bliss at first, laying in donut pool floats, drinking, trying new things, and feeling free. However, as time goes on, they get more and more unhappy. No one can be stuck in the same world forever, no matter how cool it is. Explore, travel, branch out.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

One of the best films of friendship in the 2000’s. 4 girls, best of friends, that remain connected on their summer journeys through a pair of jeans that fits all of their bodies. They all go on several expeditions: Bridget goes to soccer camp in Brazil, Lena visits her family in Greece, Tibby befriends a young girl to make a video project, and Carmen visits her dad’s new family. But they still all remain connected by the power of their friendship
