Our Favorite Books

“Reading gives us somewhere to go when we have to stay where we are,” (Mason Cooley) which is why we are going to share our favorite books so that you have some new additions to your personal list in these stay-at-home times. If you have never been “a reader” before, and are looking for a good place to start, this is perfect for you. Bring the long-awaited adventure and excitement back sooner through these wonderful stories! Although reading isn’t for everyone, we hope to help you add to your book collection through sharing books we are currently “hearting.” Here are some of our favorites:
The Selection Series
If you have not yet read the Selection, consider this your next priority. For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime— to escape the difficult life laid out for them since birth, to be swept up in a world of palaces, glittering crowns, and priceless jewels, and to compete for the heart of Prince Maxon. Follow America Singer through this journey as she realizes that, maybe...just maybe, the life she always dreamed of may not compare to the future she never imagined.
The Great Gatsby
Although you probably will read the Great Gatsby in school, it doesn’t feel like your typical “school” book. Famous Scott E. Fitzgerald tells the story of Jay Gatsby, a man who orders his life around one desire: to be reunited with Daisy Buchanan. His quest consists of poverty to wealth, finally into the arms of his beloved, and then eventually death. Follow this exciting story through the eyes of Nick Carraway to see true triumph, and true tragedy through the roaring 20’s. A movie is also available, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, if you are not a reader!
Under the Tuscan Sun
Picture this: Summertime in Tuscany, Italy. Join Frances Mayes and her voyage on turning a crumbing villa into her own personal (and beautiful) summer home, along with a little bit of romance on the side. Although life gets in the way of love, Frances's wishes come true in unexpected ways, and there's always the Tuscan sun.
Lunch in Paris
Calling all cooks, Paris-lovers, and suckers for a good romance! This book is a memoir about a young American woman caught up in two passionate love affairs--one with her new beau, Gwendal, the other with French cuisine. Lunch in Paris is the perfect treat for anyone who has dreamed that lunch in Paris could change their life. P.S. enjoy authentic French recipes that come along with each chapter!
Little Women
Our favorite classic! This is a story that revolves around the lives of four sisters growing up during and after the Civil War. With their father off fighting the war, the girls create their own theatre company as they write and perform skits for each other. Follow the heartaches and laughs as each daughter overcomes her flaws. If you have seen the movie and loved it, we promise you will love the book even more!
We Were Liars
Introducing your new favorite modern, sophisticated suspense novel. For as long as she can remember, Cadence Sinclair Eastman has spent the summer with her cousins and their families at the home of her grandfather, Harris Eastman. They are a wealthy and respected family who appear to be perfect, but it does not take Candace long to realize that maintaining a facade of perfection is more important to her family than whether or not anyone in the family is actually happy or not.
